About Me

I've been lurking through this board for a couple of years, learned a lot and didn't have much to say. Added an occasional tidbit here and there, haven't had much to say. I've recently become more involved with this board, so I'll expose introduce myself to everyone.
I was raised in Connecticut (hey everybody out there at ConnectiKITERS) and discovered San Diego when the Navy stationed me at North Island. After 22 years of being transferred away from and back to S.D., I retired and made this my home. (Truth be known, I had thawed out and couldn't go back to the cold winters of New England.)
I was going to list my age, but couldn't find 'older than dirt' or 'like Jack Benny, 39 again' so we'll just leave that blank. My wife enjoys the outdoor aspects of kiting, has learned to make dual line kites dance in the sky. But she really enjoys flying four lines best. We're dinks, dual incomes, no kids. We have, however, given names to several of our kites. And we're Uncle Dave and Aunt Iris to several young kite flyers.
After retiring from the Navy, and working a dozen years in the deadline and ulcer grind of Electronic Design Research and Development, I returned to an old hobby of flying kites. This time, I started with two line kites. Got hooked and went out to find a way to fly them all.
Now, I've been employed at a kite shop for several years. I've learned a lot about everything, but I haven't mastered anything, yet. As board member of the San Diego Kite Club (which is a club itself within the club) I've become involved with kids & kites, and the many different types of kites and how to fly them. I've flown a Prophecy to a second place trophy in precision competition at Wildwoods, and my current goal is to learn to fly a Rev well enough to join iQuad for a round or two. And there's single line kite building and flying tossed in during my spare time, too.
So, that's me. Another Kite Geek. And proud of it, too!
