#92497 Which 1.5B??

Posted by SparkieRob on 22 April 2013 - 10:49 PM

Sounds like a good plan! Get the std "B" with 2 frames (2+3, or race + 3), handles and lines, then as finances allow get a "kite-only" full vent with whatever frame you are missing (4)! No need to double up on handles, same frames, etc!!

I disagree slightly... When you get your second kite (it WILL happen) get that as a package too. But get a different line length. Most packages come with 80 footers which is great solo stuff, but as the bug bites you'll want options. 120 foot lines are great for flying with others. 50 footers are great for 3D and smaller spaces. With the second package you can set up 2 kites and quickly swap to suit the winds or you mood. Get the THIRD as a sail only and you'll have 3 kites, 2 set up to fly, and 1 spare frame to extend their range higher/lower depending. This will cost extra initially but WHEN you get a taste of the Dark Side....

#92463 Dye sublimation colour fastness

Posted by SparkieRob on 21 April 2013 - 12:47 AM

G'day everyone.
With winter coming into full swing and the high winds that come with a storm, I have to ask those that know a quick question.
How colour fast is dye sublimation?
I have a PoloVTD and am super keen to put it through its paces in the high winds but can't find anywhere a definitive answer if the printed sail colours will run if they get wet. Now, I'm talking not just a LE dipped into some water, I'm talking a full on winter rain storm.

Thanks
Rob.

#92389 My first 2-stack

Still a Four Stack, but have taken out the rear EXP and used my Polo VTD as the lead kite. Flew really nice on #90 x 50'. Until the wind got up to 30kmh+!!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1365671855.911824.jpg Then I parked it and just flew the Polo. Those pigtails are great!!

#92367 Never used music. Am l missing out?

Posted by SparkieRob on 10 April 2013 - 08:46 AM
Good Luck on setting a setting a Guinness Book world records for kiting duration.
I think Ray Bethell holds that record of around 8 hours or more non-stop with a "more than one line" kite. The exact time I do not know but I am sure it can easily be found on the internet.

At Antelope Island last year, I believe it was David Hathaway that began reffering to me as the "Energizer Bunny of kiting". I hope this isn't a reference to being annoying, like that damn bunny came to be, but rather a reference to my stamina.

Maybe next year at KP I'll make a run at Mr. Bethel's record, for real, and do it officially. You can be sure that when I do, I will have 2 fully charged iPod Nanos and my smartphone at my disposal so the music can keep me going!

Or... have a live band handy!

Better to spend a bit more on a kite that will extend your wind range than simply another one of what you have already. XTRA will compliment your colours already as it has the same sail pattern. Maybe you could play on the Colourizer and incorporate the colours and create one "super kite"!

#92229 Pairs Advice Wanted

Myself and West Australian crossed lines this morning and..... it was unreal. Great fun. Even had a couple of tangles but with a bit of a laugh, it took no time at all to fix. Will definitely be doing that again. We were on 80 footers as they were the longest lines we both had. Can't wait to try 120's! It was good to be it that kind of proximity of another kite. To interact with and upon another in the air is a joyous feeling. YOU WERE ALL RIGHT, it wasn't as scary as it looked. Advice for newbies, CROSS THOSE LINES!!

Tried out my new Polo VTD on my new 50 footers in some great and gusty winds today, 28 kmh (18mph). Kite was great, and I am really digging these short line sets. Gives a real sense of connection to the kite. Big thumbs up from me!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has helped me along the way. Your comments, feedback and PM's have always been constructive and have helped a huge amount. Having been a lone flyer for most of this your experiences have helped no end.

To any new pilot, don't be afraid to ask a question, we were all there once.

To any seasoned pilot, chip in as it all does help.

Wow! My first flight was a year ago today! I sounded like a total noob. I don't get out as much as I'd like to but I'm still loving every minute of air time. To celebrate, I did a little bit of short line work on my front lawn! Kids absolutely loved it!!!

#91800 Short Lines in Moderate winds for Tight Spaces

I was out this week with West Australian and the wind died for a bit, so I pulled out my newly made up 30 footers (give or take a foot). Saddled up the good old EXP with a 2 frame and took it for a spin. WOW WOW WOW! Being up close and personal like that is a real buzz! Just working it around was great fun. I thought I'd have a crack at some 3D work. Now THAT is cool! Catch and throws on 30's now is one of my favorite things. Swapped set ups with Ian and had a go on his Std with #50 x 50's, after a bit of practice I got a couple to work on that as well. Great morning light wind flying all round!

Can't wait to try my B2 on these shorties!

#91697 Frames in progressively vented sail stacks

It should not matter at the back.

It will be awesome to get the stacks in the air together.

But who's going to take the photos?

We'll make Kev do that!!
