#96472 Further down the rabbit hole (a 5 month reflection)

Posted by oapbillf on 25 June 2015 - 01:00 AM

Hi Jonathan,

To get more out of your practice put up your largest SLK on a similar line length to what you are using

for your Rev, then try for-mating on it form the top, bottom and sides both leading edge first and

trailing edge first.

If you fly your Rev in front of your SLK you can take the wind out of its sail making it collapse,

move your Rev away and it should recover.

If nothing else it gives you something different to try.

#96432 60 quad line rev lookalike vs a Rev 1.5

Posted by oapbillf on 23 May 2015 - 02:58 AM

With regards to coming to Dunstable Downs - that would be amazing, but unfortunately I'm not able to drive and seems impossible to get there via public transport. :-( maybe I'll talk to a mate one Sunday to give me a lift and come and visit you guys :-)

Hi Dan,

Yes! bring a mate along,

It wont take us long to get him converted to the dark side cat_lol.gif

Your profile says you come from Oxfordshire, for Face to face advice I would strongly recommend you take a Trip to Dunstable Downs one Sunday morning there are usually several experienced Rev fliers who will be more than happy to offer help and advice, I used to be one of them but circumstances have changed somewhat.

Hi Dan,

As Bob said, take a trip to Dunstable Downs ( use post code LU6 2GY ) and fly a selection of Revs !

Myself and others will be there Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, PM me if you have any questions.

And we want you back with us Bob !

#95871 SUL as my first Rev?

Posted by oapbillf on 27 December 2014 - 03:26 AM

Hi Jonathan,

This is all good information for you in deciding which Rev to purchase !

What I would like to add is this :-

Your wife is backing you all the way so don't forget to take her flying with you and just say " here, you have a go !"

and it wont be long before she wants her own Rev !   ani_victory.gif

#94433 Bridle Images

I am adding a few images to show how a 1.5  bridle is fitted to compliment  Watty,s excellent

video on "Bridle Replacement" !

Don,t forget, vertical behind horizontal.

You should be able to print copies if you require to !

Please add more/better images if you have them.

Hopefully a picture is worth a thousand words!

This is my old EXP with rods fitted.

This also applies to the Rev 1 and Rev II

#94413 Lines for Rev SLE 1.5 for beginner

Posted by oapbillf on 05 February 2014 - 06:17 AM

How do you use the lines "unsleeved"? doesn't that make them weaker at the knot.

The answers already given fully cover your query and remember that if you are using short lines it would usually be in low wind conditions where the pull on the lines is reduced !

Assume that you are using 90lb LPG unsleeved, rate it at 50% for any knots and or damage and that still gives a breaking strain of 45lbs which is still one hell of a load on EACH line !  ani_victory.gif

I recently snagged a line, 120ft,90lb LPG, on a jacket zip and it was so badly frayed that I had to cut the damaged length a couple of feet from the end.

I then added a spare length of LPG joining the ends with a bloodknot, see image, and then match the other lines.

I fly using these lines on a vented Rev in 20mph winds, no problem ! ani_yahoo.gif

And dont discard the core of the bridle, use it to make  "pull offs" !

They really help in the cooler weather especially if your fingers are more like thumbs !

#92354 Hi from the UK.

Posted by oapbillf on 09 April 2013 - 02:19 AM

Hi Steve,

All that Stone in Shoe Bob states is very good advice ! without him as my mentor and others on Dunstable Downs I would be

way behind the learning curve !

Blackheath, Sunday 10.30  onwards and the same at Dunstable Downs will usually catch Revs in action but with the

up and coming festivals some fliers will be away, see the calender link. http://www.kitecalendar.co.uk/

We have a new Rev flier on the Downs, Mark, not a member yet but I keep nagging him, and after only a couple of weekends

his skill set has improved with a few tips from the rest of us!

#92199 B-Series PRO Colorizer

Posted by oapbillf on 23 March 2013 - 07:05 AM

Hi Watty,

Thanks for the info ! you are right with  XP running IE8.

I was only playing with the colorizer, having recently recieved a Revopolo UL I cannot justify another new Rev just yet !

My computer will be dropped from a great height onto a hard surface as soon as my son buys me a new one, It always seems to do what it wants rather that what it,s told !

#91135 Upgrade coming!

Posted by oapbillf on 19 December 2012 - 09:41 AM

Stroke survivor, I am with you regarding being logged in, but not smileys!

As soon as I go to the forum I find that I am logged in!
I can log out OK and go to other sites then return to the forum and find that I am logged in again!
I do not save passwords and have used tools to delete any possible saved items, the forum is the only site where this is occuring and has only started in the last few days!
I can even turn off and restart my confuser (thats what I call it) and I still find I am logged in!

Looking at who is actually logged in shows some members are on for many hours!

When I have looked at different posts today the smileys have only been in code but on Stroke Survivors previous reply they are visable!

Is it me or the upgrade screwed things up?
