Donated by Paul de Bakker & Into the Wind, our next TISKC raffle item is the Echo! The Echo may just be my favorite indoor & no-wind kite, and I'm thrilled that we have one to offer to one lucky person supporting TISKC. I own two of these kites already, and if I wasn't the commissioner, I'd be throwing in for this raffle myself.
What makes the Echo so special? Well, start with a phenomenal indoor kite, capable of all the great indoor floaty flying, add all the tricky maneuvers like 540 flat spins, half axels, snap stalls, and round it out with great throw/catch balance. But that's not all! The flexible micro fiberglass frame means that this kite also excels outdoors when the wind is just barely there. Want to get in 15 minutes of flying but don't have time to drive to the local park or beach? Attach a set of 15-20 foot lines to the Echo, and you can fly in your front yard, your back yard, or even your street (and I've flown mine in all three). Work in a city? Bring the Echo and spend your lunch break flying on the sidewalk or the rooftop.
I have quite literally carried mine across the country and halfway around the world. When everyone else is grounded because the wind dies, the flyer with the Echo continues to keep the crowd engaged. And on short lines, you can get right in close. Sure, you could fly a Rev on 120' lines over a boardwalk, but wouldn't it be more fun to be arm's length from the people watching you fly?
Tickets for this raffle are a steal at just $5.00 each, and we're only offering 75 tickets total. Drawing will be held on the beach at TI on January 18th, but you don't have to be present to win -- and if all the tickets sell out before January 18th, we'll hold the drawing early! Visit the Eastern League website for all the details. And if you haven't signed up to compete at TISKC, time is running out to take advantage of flat-rate early registration. Register by January 1, 2014 to save big!
Congratulations to Stuart McCullough of Virginia, who won this kite!
With the 2014 Treasure Island Sport Kite Championships just under six weeks away, it's time to announce our first raffle/donation opportunity. Will Sturdy has been kind enough to donate one of his brand new Impulse freestyle kites for our first raffle.
The winner will get to select which of the stock colors pictured he or she would like (Red, Purple, Green or Blue). The Impulse is the latest freestyle kite designed by Will, having been extensively tested and flown all up and down the East Coast. Where the Saber is all business, this is the go-to kite for freestyle trick flying.
Raffle tickets are just $10 each, with a maximum of 50 being sold this time around. Individuals can purchase up to 10 tickets, improving your odds to 1:5! The drawing for the Impulse will be held on December 24th, 2013 (or sooner, if all the tickets go quickly). Visit the donation page today to enter!
Registration is now open for the 2014 Treasure Island Sport Kite Championships (TISKC). Presented by Windworks in Florida, and sponsored by Prism, Premier, HQ, Sturdy Designs, and Kitebus Festivals (with more sponsors coming soon), TISKC and the Treasure Island Kite Festival celebrate their 17th year! TISKC is scheduled to take place over the Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend, January 18-20th, 2014, in Treasure Island, Florida. For most of us, it'll be a three day weekend, so after the competition we'll have plenty of time to fly and enjoy the white sands and warm sun of the gulf coast before heading home.
In the grand tradition of Eastern League events, Maggie Engvall will be returning as our Chief Judge, and Terry Murray will be on hand to provide us all with the very best of festival sound & announcing that we've come to enjoy from Kitebus Festivals. Compulsory figures, schedules and directions are available online at the Eastern League website. As with the past few years, the competition will be tightly integrated with the kite festival, with the festival field doubling as the ballet competition field for both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
We're again offering a flat-rate registration fee for competitors taking advantage of early registration: sign up before January 1st 2014, and pay the lower of $45 for unlimited disciplines, or $15 to register, and $15 per discipline. After January 1st those prices will increase, so sign up early and save! All non-novice registrations must be received prior to January 12, 2013. Novice & first-time competitors may register up to the day of the event, and first-time competitors always fly free at Eastern League events! The host hotel will once again be the Thunderbird resort, book your room early and be a part of the party!
We're still lining up raffle items, but I'm thrilled to announce that our first raffle sponsor will be Sturdy Designs. Will Sturdy has generously offered TISKC a choice of either a Saber III or the new Sturdy Designs freestyle kite, the Impulse as the raffle prize, so I'm putting the question to all of you: email me at email@example.com and let me know which kite we should raffle off! Raffle tickets will go on sale after Thanksgiving, so let me know your choices ASAP!
Our first raffle item to support the 2013 Fall Fly at TI is here! Flying Smiles Kites have generously donated a set of 120' x 100# Shanti Skybond Quadlines for us raffle off to one lucky winner!
Tickets are just $4 each (max of 5 tickets per person, please), and a total of 40 tickets will be sold. All proceeds go to offset the cost of operating the Fall Fly at TI event. The prize drawing will be held on or around September 22nd, 2013, so don't delay! We're raffling off the quad lines pictured below, brand new and ready for you to use!
We'll have a few more raffles to run before the event itself begins, so keep checking back for details!
Also, it's a great time to sign up to compete at Fall Fly at TI as well, as we're running a discounted early registration period through October 1st... Sign up early and save a bundle on competition! For all the current event details, check out http://easternleague.net/fallfly
