Rev IIs work really well in a stack.  Sometimes we join them together and make these beauties.  Team flying is really fun but believe me, 5 minutes is enough!

I'd like straps that didn't fall off my shoulder when i'm walking along. 

Bob, well maybe just a little encouragement.  We don't want to turn this into a competition.

 

What i liked best about this mega team was the fun aspect of it and the ability to laugh at ourselves.  I can't wait to see what fun things happen in the next one.  

 

So i guess the message is "Go create!"

Just want to say a massive thank you to all of the fliers in the Rev Mega team at Berck.  To quote a good friend of mine.. "You guys Rock!"

 

For anyone who wasn't there, 11:30 every day on the beach was Mega Team Practice.  Rain or shine, tempest or zephyr we all assembled on the beach to run through the days routine.  Different people brought different ideas to the table and we gradually increased the repertoire as the week went on (we still have a few good ideas left over for next year).  However, i do have to credit FLIC for the smilies.  This is something they have done for a few years but the idea was too good not to steal!  I have no idea who suggested the car but that was absolute genius!

 

As the caller of the mega team i received a lot of very positive feedback about the mega team.  The organisers, the public and even some of the hardened single line fliers were blown away by what we achieved.  So, in case i did not get a chance to say thank you on the beach, THANK YOU.

 

So John, if this is what can be achieved by fliers from France, England, Holland, Singapore, just imagine what you are going to do in WSIKF where you all speak the same language!

All coloured Icarex will leach colour if you get it wet then roll it up, put it away and forget about it.  The printed sails are no different.  They are perfectly colour fast in the wet so don't worry about that (how else could we fly them in England!)  just remember to dry them off before rolling up and then hang them out to dry when you get home.  That way you will have years of happy flying together.  

Well,all the kites are packed, new lines made, music CD burned all i have to do now is find the waterproof clothing!  Lets hope the weather improves for the weekend.

If you can keep your head whilst all those around you are losing theirs, you're looking at the wrong kite!

I had a couple of moments in the mega team when i was flying someone elses kites, but you did a great job.  I'm always impressed at the way the mega team fliers work together to make sure everyone enjoys and gets fully involved in the mega team.  It really was a mega TEAM.

Hi , I am lucky enough to be going to the festivals in Jakarta, then Lampung then Singapore at the end of June.  I am really looking forward to seeing the rev fliers there.

Who else is going and would anyone be interested in a little Rev Team coaching.  The organisers have said they hope to have some time and space to make this happen.

Really exctied about the trip as i have been trying to get to these festivals for about 10 years!

The radio setup is one-way so that the captain speaks, but can't hear anyone else. Which is perfect for team flying: I can't hear whining from the team and if they misbehave, they have to listen to me sing.

I so feel you Mike!  It's a shame team fliers don't come with a mute button!

Blimey (Stone In Shoe) Bob - That's seriously vented!  Not that I'm going to try this just yet, but what size are the holes?  How did you make them?  And what sort of winds will that cope with?  I'm assuming an SLE spar??

Strangely we find a lighter frame in the T bag kites works best.  They are a great solution before the factory made mega-vents were available.  They are still a good solution if you have an old spare sail that you don't mind making hundreds of holes in. They have a smaller wind window than a standard Rev and don't like flat tricks like axles very much but if you need to fly in 30mph plus then they work just fine.

The Flying Squad took delivery of 6 new Barressi full vents at WSIKF last year and then promptly burned over a 1000 holes in each one.  The first hole was the toughy but after that you just get on with it.

Come to Dunstable kite festival in July and we'll show you in detail.

There's lot that can be added to this conversation but for now i will just add two things.

For groups of newer fliers it is helpfull to be descriptive and clear. People soon learn the calls and you are able to abbreviate soon enough.  Taking a few extra seconds for the call is not so critical as when flying dual line kites.

Secondly, give a good pause between the preparatory command and then final execution command.  eg.  individual, 180 clockwise.........(pause).......GO!  (two reasons, it takes a while for some fliers to hear the command and understand it then apply it and finally it helps to give the fliers a chance to say "say what?" before you launch into a full move)

I've got one but haven't had a chance to fly it yet, between the recent foot surgery and all of the snow on the ground!

Some people just have no dedication to kite flying you know!

Hi all, just got back from a great weekend in the grim North.  Thanks all for making it such a fun weekend.  

To Vince and the team, my hat goes off to you for all the work you put into hosting this weekend. The site is great and the facilities much appreciated as were the catering staff!  Please pass on my thanks to all those who worked so hard to make the now "legendary" soup and the Corned Beef pie.  

I really enjoyed all the flying we did.  Whilst very light winds are not great for quickly learning new moves and ideas i think we still covered a lot of ground with the light wind flying.  (pun intended)

I have some photo's i will post later but for now, many thanks to you all for sharing your time.

The Flying Squad will be happy to supply a few things, we certainly have some pins and i will have a scratch around to see if i can find something else.

Heathrow - Newcastle in 45 minutes if I recall from last year
arrived on time for the Dunstable festival,
a bit quicker than the 6 hour drive  

And as Vince says, it's a superb place to fly  

You can fly from Stanstead too.
