The Fosters and friends said to me a few days ago "hey we are going to fly on the flight deck of the Midway on Presidents
Day", and I thought to myself whatttttttt you know I got to be there..... So me and Dr. Moody got up early and
headed out for the Midway, I mean come on fly on the flight deck of the "Midway" with my friends..... Then we are
on the deck and who walks up but Joe H. himself to fly with us, I will say conditions were tough and I mean real tough
but dog gone its the deck of the "Midway" and I'm honored to just be there let alone fly red,white,and blue Revolution
kites with some really good folks.... To all who put this together thank you so much for the honor of just being there
with you..... Ben

Now that's the perfect place to fly some red, white,& blue revs. Ok, here's my question, what kind of ground stake does one use on a flight deck of a carrier? A big magnet?

In the deck there are embedded hooks called "padeyes" for tying down the planes. To these hooks you can attach carbines.
I don't know how well a magnet would work because the surface is a very thick non-skid paint.

This was a very cool place to fly, I mean really cool.... Plus the fliers just had a blast,
the wind was lets just say it was but not to worry cause the "Family" got er done hahaha.... Ben

That is exactly what we did. The bigger problem, aside from the 80' wide flying space, was the lack of wind on the surface of the deck, and much of the time a back-wind in that area. Many times we had to have someone pick up the kites and toss them a few feet into the air in order to get above the back-wind and launch.

If there is a next time, we will use simple "S" hooks from the hardware store to hook to the "padeyes" and secure our handles.

Also a big "Thank You" to Vanessa Pineda-Ruiz, Marketing Manager and Cody Bray Marketing Coordinator of the Midway Museum for allowing us roped off access to the Midway foredeck.

It was exciting, and at the same time humbling, to fly our red white and blue Revs to patriotic music (America the Beautiful, Stars and Stripes Forever, etc.), the Richard Rogers score to the TV series "Victory at Sea", and music from the WW II era by the Dorsey bands, the Andrews Sisters and others, on Presidents' Day.

What a time we all had.
