For several months YouTube videos have been very slow. Other video sites download just fine. I can watch streaming video on Hulu in the highest definition. I have the latest flash player and the latest version of Firefox. The YouTube videos don't want to start, and when they do, they will download a short time and stop. Hitting "refresh" will sometimes get them started again, but they seldom download to completion.
I went to the YouTube forum, and others seem to have the same problem.
The video that Monks just posted on vimeo.com downloaded without a hitch.
How about you?

I've noticed a problem with YouTube freezing or not starting in the first place when I view videos in HD (sometimes labeled "HQ" on YouTube). Switching to standard resolution will often get them going. Once started, I can often switch back to high def with no further problems. Weird.

It was mentioned in the similar thread on GWTW, another option is to actually download the videos from YouTube.
There are a couple of available addons for Firefox which do this, or you can also use this URL...

With the Firefox addon I use and KeepVid both, you can download ANY resolution that's available on YouTube.

Yesterday Mike Kory suggested using HTML5 rather than Flash. It seems a little better.
I have been using Download Helper with Firefox. I will try your suggestions.
