Thought I'd post my quick repair for small rips (slits) in the leading edge screening (mesh)...

I recently experimented with this easy repair method, and have flown it several times since and found it to work just great!

I have a well-used full-vent Rev which has been flown for several years and suffered several small (1"-1-1/2") horizontal slits in the leading edge mesh. I was originally going to replace the full length of the mesh (or sew a mesh patch) but thought I'd try this and see IF it worked...and it did!

Using a piece of scotch-tape under the mesh to hold the tear tight and in place, I applied a thin coat of super glue, waited a few seconds, then used a cotton Q-tip swab to press the damaged area in place and to also remove any excess glue. I allowed the glue to set well and dry (a few minutes) then slowly removed the tape.

The repaired slit is nearly invisible and has held well.

Just thought I'd pass this along!

Doug Charleville ran his entire sail thru a barbed wire fence, he "repaired" it using the same method described above by Jynx.

Keep an eye on the repair. CA Glue is brittle when it dries, I wouldn't be too surprised if it opens back up again.

Nice tip! I've used that method to repair sails but I never thought to try it on mesh. Thanks!

Flew one of the repaired kites (twice)... and the fixes are still holding fine!

It sure beats patching by sewing or replacing the entire LE screening. The way I look at it... if it fails in the future I can always easily redo or go to plan "B"... but so far - so Good!

If you really want to test it let Rich fly your kite in TI. If it makes it through that then it's a tough repair! :kid_smartass:

We use super glue gell to repair holes in the sails, it is a little more flexibility. It might work on the mesh too.
