Hmmm! Seems like the grid in Long Beach was called in columns from the left, 1 - 8. Maybe I am remembering incorrectly.

Numbered left to right - at least that is the way I interpreted the instructions ("odd columns up, even down").

Too bad I wasn't in the grids that year!! Might remember!! We had a 16 grid on Thursday and Friday this year, both were led from the right the majority of the time!! For a few of the moves, John B. moved himself closer to the middle, but I think that was because of windy conditions and hearing was difficult!! I've thought of calling from the left, but without much experience thought that everyone was calling and leading from the right!! At least that's what I've been in since I've tried, and liked team flying!!

Thanks, I still remember counting from the left hand side of the page too.

Counting from right to left still seems a bit odd given that we read from left to right...

Are there two questions being discussed here?

In grid formation, how do you count the columns? (1)

In multiple flier formations, is the leader usually on the left or right end? (2)

I believe, usually, (1) left to right, (2) right end.

For the 16 grid at WSIKF this year, everything was from the right!! In any multiple flier group, calling was from the right also!!

Are you facing the fliers or behind them? I am assuming behind.

I was one of the grid!!! 2nd column, 3rd row!! Formed the inside ball of 4, the other 12 formed the outside!! So from my frame of reference, everything was led from the right!!!

PS: Simon - Did you mean my other left or ????

On another point - do most team fliers find that they use a bit more "drive" in their setups for team?? Or do they use the same setup as they would if they flew individually? I find, myself, using more brake when I fly solo, and more drive in a team or group!! Comments????
