As it turns out, both Scotty and I were on the beach all day yesterday flying Elliot's kites in a beautiful 10-15 SSW. In a word it was SPECTACULAR!
I spoke to Elliot shortly thereafter to check in on him and Cath and in typical fashion he was very relaxed about the whole deal. The storm was expected to pass approx 150 miles east from Hatteras between about 3AM to 6AM, which of course is about the same time as high tide which would further complicate matters. He expected they would be sleeping thru the ordeal and when awake later in the morning, would have to clear some fallen branches from the yard, etc. He seemed very nonchalant about it.
I did fly the the mega vent, framed with the new green "Rich" rods, side by side with one of Elliots kites.
It is SMOOTH!!!!!!!!!!!! Briefly, the two sails, while both wide open in terms of venting, fly differently. The Shook has more drive due in part to it's not being nearly as vented (tho it does have a lot of holes) as the mega so comparatively speaking, my top leader was pulled in quite a bit more just to keep up with the Shook.
I'll do a bit more side by side flying of both for comparison purposes and will definitely wait for the stronger breeze to kick in, but this beauty is definitely flyable down in the lower wind range (was abt 10mph at the time); justs needs some light wind technique to make it work. More on this to follow.
The forecast for SouthJersey today is partly sunny, etc so storm looks to be passing east. Looks to be a great day for Revs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
