It's pretty funny that Jeff thinks he should go practice! You ever seen him fly?
Geeze it's so depressing. Every time I think I've "got it going on" I get another lesson in humility from Burka.
One time he was watching me and said I'd made great strides improving my skills as a quad pilot over the last 17 years. He then looks me directly in the eye and flies one handed throughout the whole conversation, he switches hands back and forth, even flying up-wind or directly overhead, throwing it around (WAY further than a mere flailer like me - using these huge pumping motions), then the kite floats gracefully to his outstretched hand for a catch, like it was on railroad tracks. He NEVER looked at the kite once!!! I wanted to throw all my flying toys into the reflection pond and take-up a new activity immediately.
So yeah Jeff, maybe you should take a whole day off and go practice using both handles! You don't want to embarrass yourself on national TV, do you?
My only saving grace is Ian, . . . you just can't beat "CUTE" regardless of your skills. If conditions are appropriate mister willoughby will be the show, (if not I have Burka who can step-up and fly inside a burning telephone booth.)

Funny story about Burka!
I told Lisa the other day that the rest of us would only be there to make it appear we knew what was going on and that once the staff met Ian we'd be shuttled off to the sidelines.

I'm still pretty mediocre with just my right hand -- that's why I kept telling you to make sure you practiced with both!
But, yeah, I'll take the blame for the way you flail.
I've never even flown a Sotich in a phone booth (and while I know where I've got some of Charlie's kites at home, I have no idea where I could find a phone booth!). I think this was the smallest space I ever flew in -- not so bad laterally, but the ceiling was really low...
Hey, Paul -- don't you now have that sail?
(that was my first kite purpose-built for indoor; weighed a hair over 3oz with skyshark 2Ps, 1.5oz ripstop leading edge, narrower bungees and shrunken reinforcements. '94, I think.)

Funny story about Burka!

She's concerned her son's ego will get bigger than she can handle though,
you know bigger than Smitty's (his only fits in wheelbarrow since winning MMB at WSIKF) or larger than even the "total kite package".
It will be nice to say someday "I knew Ian BACK when he could be beaten!"

I imagine there will be some updates when we hear about a new date...

They want to reschedule but as kite season gets warmer there are lots of long standing events to choose from and commitments already rendered.
Ian probably scared 'em,

Lisa & Rich were picked up and shuttled around looking at sites, met with the production staff, etc. I actually received the hotel's confirmation data from the studio travel department, 20 minutes later we were called to put it on hold (because of the weather!)

Lisa & Rich were picked up and shuttled around looking at sites, met with the production staff, etc. I actually received the hotel's confirmation data from the studio travel department, 20 minutes later we were called to put it on hold (because of the weather!)

In truth, i saw this coming a mile away. In fact, when Lisa and I were there Monday, it was raining pretty steadily and I said to the producer, the two things that will kill this segment are rain and rain. Sure enough.
The show as planned was to be heavily based on outside segments as a kick off to their "Friday Spring on the Plaza" series. It's likely some other segments as well got postponed, etc.
Some segments die hard, others live to see another day. Guess we'll wait to see how invested they are in making this one happen.
