I think you want to use the words "reasonably possible" because practically anything is "possible" if you are willing to pay the price.

Alas, it's not possible at this time... Although I have placed the request through Invision's support channels.

I'll keep you posted if anything turns up, I do see the benefit.

Indeed, as Bart pointed out, it does say that the votes may be viewed by others when it's a public poll.



The votes are viewable by click the little "view" link to the right of each poll option.

And again, you can delete your vote after the fact to either remove it altogether or to change it.

This "public poll" isn't the standard, but in this case, it gave me a clear idea of why/how the answers fit into the big picture.

Personally, with the standards I try to keep in my own life, I proudly stand by (or own up to) the opinions I share.

Aha, just got the scoop... And a reality check.

The placement of the Shoutbox is part of the template, globally.

Can't change the template per user... Every time I've moved it up or down, I've had to rebuild the templates to complete the job.

So, no.

Another thought came to mind, and I wonder if it is 'reasonably possible' to setup the shout box so that the newest posts appear at the bottom? The reason I ask this, is that in order for me to scroll down, after reading the shout box, I have to move my mouse over to the side of the shout box before I use the mouse wheel to scroll down, other wise, it ends up scrolling down through the shout box instead of the forum Index. If the order of posts was switched, then the shout box would already be scrolled all the way down, and this would no longer be an issue.

I voted bottom, but then turned it off altogether. I think a live chat interferes with the way I use a forum anyway. A chat window needs to stay open and static, and when you turn the Global Display of the shoutbox on, it adds one more layer of stuff I have to scroll past to get to what I want.

The feature is fine, though. I'd rather have it the way I've got it, which is that there is a simple link in the menu bar across the top. If I want to use the shoutbox, I can click that link and open it on its own page or tab.

Since the shoutbox can be minimized any time we want to, why not leave it active all the time it's in view? I would like to ba able to scroll up and see if anybody shouted while reading a thread without having to click the "I'm Back" button. There might be more chatting that way. Perhaps there's some real good reason for this that I'm not aware of. I don't pretend to know squat about programming.

Funny how the more things change the more they stay the same. Anybody else remember party lines? That's what the shoutbox seems to revive.

Let's see ... forums, facebook, shoutbox, e-mail, snail mail, cell phone ... all these different ways of communicating ... when does anyone have time to fly kites anymore???

I've turned the distraction off ... going back into hibernation.

As time goes on, I'm considering more and more the idea of removing the Shoutbox from global view and just having folks use the dedicated Shoutbox page as a chatroom with the timeout set to something more like 5 minutes.

The thing is, I think it's chewing up tons of bandwidth on the server as well, having to load on every single page.

I know the sentiments of those who wish it gone, but would the folks who ARE using it regularly forgive me if we use only the dedicated page?

You'll notice the Shoutbox is gone from the global pages and limited only to the dedicated page (link on navbar)...

This is due to a marked increase in bandwidth usage due to the multiple refresh occurring every time someone was on any given page of the forum, to the point where it was surpassing the limits for this hosting account.

With the sheer number of daily visits, there was just no way to sustain it on the server end, but I encourage everyone who has an interest to hang out and chatter on the dedicated page, shoudn't be an issue.

Got into this conversation late, did just vote for bottom. Dope!!

Now I have read the rest of the thread it looks like a good idea being able to call the chatbox up when you want it.

You get 2 bites at the Cherry. Dedicated chat if that is what you want. Instantly to Forum when you like.

Looks like a good decision to me John, and a save on bandwidth.

A win win situation I would think.
