Being a member of several forums around the world, there are very few I actively participate in on a regular basis. The odd topic will entice me in, but 99.9 percent of the time I look and say nothing.

Having recently created a forum with another kite flier, we wanted to discuss and make people aware specifically of CAMPING and KITE FLYING events for 2010 that most of us kiters attend, creating a single point for reference and information. As it is just for fun and something to 'do' with friends in the winter months, it has been quite successful, and liken it to the atmosphere in someone's awning where we gather for a laugh and chat, not always about kites, and always light hearted.

Why some people just come, look, and say nothing…dawned on me today as I am equally to blame when dipping onto other forums. Personally I do not have enough time to flit from forum to forum. It is hard enough to catch up on threads if I didn't look in at least once a week and I never have the time to read every posting, and if I did say something without reading it all it could be repetitive and I would look stupid. I think I joined all these forums over the years to READ information, cars / kites / RC clubs etc.

Today I realised all my input by words and photographs into 'our' forum is read like a magazine (as I have always done) but as the author of most of the posts it would be nice to have some feedback and TOTALLY unlike a magazine every member can express their views and even start a conservation off!

This is my way of apologising to the Forums I have not participated in sufficiently, but thank you for the membership that allowed me to selfishly read your authors 'informative' threads without any contribution from yours truly!

SO…….How many Forums do YOU belong to?

And…How many do you actively post in?

Mine is 8 Forums (and I am posting this in all of them!)

And actively participating in just the one due mainly to lack of hours in the day!

I'm regularly active (daily) on 2 forums (Rev and Kitelife), several times a week on RevGuild and about once every 1-2 weeks on GWTW.

Once in awhile, I also visit AKA, Drachen Forum, Fractured Axel and KiteBuilder.

So 7 all together, but only 3 with some regularity.

I'm a member of roughly a dozen other forums for informational or broadcast purposes.

I'm regularly active (daily) on 2 forums (Rev and GWTW), about once a week on KiteConnection.

I believe these are the only 3 I am a member of and they are certainly the only ones I visit.

Gads.

Far too many.

A slew of the typical kite sites and a whole pack of guitar fear related ones and a bushel of computer ones tho for the most part, I'm far more active here than anywhere else. I'd guess 25-30 but, some of those I check once a month.

Who knows, not even me.

Probably around ten or fifteen kite forums in English, French, Spanish, Italian and German.

Computer related I would guess upwards of twenty-five.

Then come a bunch of misc forums.

Daily active only on revkites, some others once a week.
The rest when ever I think about them or need to find out something.
When I come to a forum I am not sure I am a member of, I try once if it doesn't go I request my password. If it says It doesn't recognize my user name or email address, I register.

Oh yeah, I just counted kite forums...

I'm also a member of and active on roughly half a dozen forums related to web design and php scripting. :)

These five are in a single favorite's file that are opened all at once with a <right click> <Open in Tab Group>:

Revolution
IKE
Kitelife
Kitebuilder
GWTW ... more of a lurker

That window stays up all day. Oh yes, there's another favorite file with all of the weather sites I monitor ... yep, that window also stays up all day.

Regards,
Tom

In order of posting activity:

Fractured Axel,
Rev forum,
nkg (northern kite group),
EeeUser,
EEEbuntu,
OOoForum,
Exponent CMS.

There is a very steep tail off across these, the last three I pretty much lurk only.

Hello all-
The popular kite stuff; as already mentioned by most of you; although the Rev Forum is the only one that I regularly read, chat, say hello, etc.
I belong to a few photography forums and a few fishing forums; I regularly check out one of each. There's others, but only once in a great while to reference stuff; it takes up just way too much time to be acitve on them all!
Facebook counts, too? Right?

edited for spelling

For me:

1. Facebook if it counts! ;-)
Rev forum
Fractured Axel
swarb.co.uk - discussions on British Law - strangely addictive
TFS
Dahon - folding bikes
Kitelife
Freecycle
Audi-Forums
drachenforum
Blackberry Forum
GWTW
Vodafone eforum

Looks like I'm all kites, technology & transport then ;-)

I posted this thread on the 15th Dec and ONLY remembered I did so today, the 1st Jan 2010, and returned to see what happened with it. I am impressed, its good to chat on here! The 8 other forums I posted it in had between 1 and 2 replies!!!

Of course I forgot that a lot of readers (me included, sometimes) don’t feel they know everyone enough to voice their opinion (understandable) and then as I have found every forum has a different 'board' and not always easy to navigate around or post on, from what one is used to. This forum is one of the easiest to navigate, congrats to whoever is responsible for it.

There is probably a thread somewhere saying HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY, but I am doing my usual ‘flitting’ around forums and haven’t looked. Just packing for the Ahmedabad Kite Festival in sunny, hot India in a less than a week now!

Wishing you all a freezing New Years greeting…
