Anyone planning on attending the Sunfest in Ocean City Maryland Sept. 24th to 27th?
Looking to hear from someone who has attended in recent years to see if it is woth the trip.

Wife and I will be there, we wouldn't miss Sunfest. But then, we're pretty much locals and don't travel too far for it (just 2 hours on the road). OC is usually a pretty good place to fly, generally room enough up and down the beach for everyone without the kites getting too crowded. Hotel accomodations vary greatly (in price, location, and quality), but if you're not in a hotel convenient to the boardwalk and festival areas, beach access isn't bad if you get there early and don't mind parking on a side street right next to the boardwalk and paying. Breakfast at Boardwalk Joe's (4th Street and Boardwalk) always a good way to start the kiting day. Events usually don't "officially" start until 10:00 but we have breakfast around 7:15/7:30-ish and then hit the beach right after. Folks at the Kite Loft are super good about festival support and kiter support in general, and great about organizing and holding the auctions. As to downsides about Sunfest: Unlike MIKE in the spring, there is a lack of roped off fields (I gather it costs a mint to get a permit for that in OC) but we deal with it. Also, watch out for the beach patrol who can be pretty clueless when they run up and down the beach on their four wheelers.

You can pretty much count on most if not all of the mid-Atlantic area clubs to be there and have "camps" set up: Wings Over Washington, Pocono Kite Symphony, South Jersey Kite Fliers, Richmond Air Force, FOG (Fat Old Guys) Fliers, et al. Pick one or more and come hang out.

Barbara & I are arriving on Wednesday the 23rd, staying thru Monday the 28th of September.
Sunfest is a relaxing time spent flying and conversing with friends, . . .... nothing to do but enjoy yourself the whole time.
If this is your first visit I'm bettin' you'll be back again in the future!

The wind over the building can be tough, (from the west) but a smooth wind off the ocean allows you to fly right over the tourists on the boardwalk! It's a place where you might need indoor in the morning and highly vented kites before the day is over!

True dat. With Paul Dugard and some of the rest of us WOW gang. I was only flying my Borelli Glider and a new Buka from a chair, though. Hopin' to fly Revs tomorrow with better winds.

I'm not sure Choccy. I do know that Quaa, Love2fly, and ScottA were due to be there as well as REVflyer, Paul Dugard, Alden and Ben. I did catch them however (the flag hid them most of the time!):

Yep, it was a mix all day...not sure about this particular pic....Rich, Laura, Scottie, Paul LaMasters, Paul Dugard, Alden, Brad Weiner, Lee Sedgwick, Me, Dave Humes, and our young WOWster Garrett were all on the line at one time or another....with Ben doing his thing, as always. Rain cleared off around 1:00 but the winds only got stronger as the day went....guess we were dealing with 20-25 gusting over 30?

Not sure which thread to post in but thank you for the great weekend everyone!

Ben, a special thanks to you for helping me out this weekend. I really needed to get away!

We had plenty of "breezes" Friday afternoon and Saturday. So much so that my forearms were feeling it Saturday afternoon.

Along with flying I enjoyed seeing my friends. Hanging out with everyone is always fun. Thank you Barbara and Paul for Friday evening and everyone else for the entertainment all day long. Another special thanks to Sara at Boardwalk Joe's and the poor guy that ended up wearing Barbara's frog hat. The look on his face was priceless!

Now, those that took pictures please post them!!!!

At Boardwalk Joe's for breakfast one morning, Barbara's frog hat made an appearance on two of the crew.
