First, thanks for the complimets, we appreciate them, more even coming from you, the best rev kite fliers ;O)

Actually it is all The Flying Squad work, we just made the kites. The design is all from them and, as you said, is gorgeous! We just put our two cents doing our best so the manufacturing makes justice to the graphics. We are very happy with the results.

And the kites perform super well in low wind (which is what they are made for), what else can one desire from a rev ;O) ?

We hope to see many more astonishing kites from you all in the near future, now that there are no limits on what you can put on a rev skin we are very excited waiting for the artists around to design amazing ones.

Very nice kites.

Designing a Rev sail for printing is a long and tedious work.
On top of this the file must be full size, not drawn to scale.
To top it off, you need the proper software on your PC/MAC.

If you want to use pictures as I have done with the Historical REV, you have to ensure that they are of sufficient quality when blown up to the size you want printed on the sail.
Adobe Illustrator working together with Photoshop are the best programs you can use for this type of work.

Another thing, watch out for copyrights concerning any design or photos you want to use. If it is not yours, you must acquire the right in writing to use what ever you want to use in your design for the purpose you want to use it.
For example you can't use the Harley-Davidson logo on your REV unless you acquire from Harley-Davidson in writing the right to use their logo on a "Revolution kite" for, let us say personal purposes not to be resold.
Even then Revolution might want to have their say on this.

The best thing I can say is to create your very own design that is not similar to another's design or a rework of someone elses design. For photos, use photos that you have personally photographed because then you own the copyright. For exact details, their are very good books on copyright laws and lawyers who specialize in the field of copyright.

Hi John, to add to your post, it can be work but boy is it fun.

Illustrator and Photoshop are great tools, however, you can also find public domain software that does a similar job. Try and use a Vector Graphic package which can then be enlarged to whatever size you need.

To add to what John said about photos, personally I prefer an abstract design as, hopefully, your rev won't spend too much time the right way up. This can make some photos look a little odd. Try to go for something bold that works from a distance and then add details for closer inspection.

On the copyright thing, there are loads of places on the net where you can search for images and for a fee (usually quite small) you can use their images.

Hi Stephen,
To add on to this, read the details for how you are allowed to use these free or for a fee photos. In most cases there are limitations. You need to know these limitations before you use the photos, not later when it is too late.
