Hi Bazzer,

Trying desperately to think what I remember you flying at Portsmouth... I keep think of Edo's or possibly Sode's

(oh so many years ago...)

Does anyone know if anything is being organised for the evenings?

If not, I was thinking of a get together at a great Italian restaurant in North End (Portsmouth). Though we'd have to organise a few lifts for those without wheels.
No problems getting it up - It's using it properly that's the problem!

There is a BBQ for invited flyers.

So you would have to drive to this restaurant ? bugger that I want a drink lol ( as all the pubs shut early ? )

Just looked at Met Check http://www.metcheck....r...mouth&day=6 which looks promising.

Do the pubs really shut early?

Felix just pipped me in posting next w/e's forecast.

Do the pubs really shut early?

Absolutely not!

I've just got off the phone to the manager of the Still & West in Old Portsmouth who assures me that regular licensing hours are in operation for the festival. For pubs in the Old Portsmouth area that's 11pm closing on Saturday and 10.30pm Sunday, though you'll find pubs & bars in Albert Road open 'till midnight or 1am on Saturday, and 2am+ in the Guildhall area. Wouldn't be at all surprised to bump into either Sailor or Jonesey loitering around Portsmouth Guildhall steps in the wee hours either, I gather there's a ship in port

*Hic * Cheers!

...And this from PortsmouthPubs.org.uk

Well, as far as I'm concerned, there's certainly not a curfew in place at any pub in Portsmouth - nor is there ever been! Obviously, all pubs are subject to their own licensing hours, as decided by the city planners, but this is really only dictated by the locality of the pub in question. For example, a street-corner local in a residential area is likely to close at around 11.00-11.30pm at weekends, whereas the pubs on Albert Road and similar locations would generally be open until 12.30-01.00am. You can see the licensed opening hours for each pub by looking at my website. If you would prefer to know the hours for which each house is allowed to serve alcohol, visit the link below: http://www.portsmout...iving/6978.html Hope this goes some way to reassuring you?! Thanks for getting in touch,

I think that settles the matter ;)

Edit: I mean, it's not as if kite fliers are like visiting Millwall fans

Ah well, I will not be staying up late anyway... We have to be on the field early on Sunday morning (and Monday as well, possibly... <grins>)

Felix

[Edit] PS maybe we could do the JMH 16 if we get up early in the morning?

Yes, that's my experience of the pubs... e.g. the one closest to the halls we all stay in. Come 10.30pm on Sunday they encourage you loudly to drink up (hello, I have 20 minutes, thank you!) stupid archaic English laws!

Us locals never have that problem ... its just how we treat you Northerners who come down here dressed in your 'gang colours', drinking our beer lapping up our sea breeze and sunshine, using up our parking spaces then your off back up to the wild lands of the North without so much as a postcard .....

Ok first rounds on me (probably literally!)

Thing is Jonesy, everyone is a Northener compared to you, so you will be out numbered.

As for the "Gangs" dont get me started on the big Dual'y - Quad wars of 8 years ago!! They were all lined up, Dualies all in Black B) , Quad in Cream  , then the leader of the Buggy Boys some guy call Lynn came along and wiped everyone out  . And that's how Dual line came to end in the UK. Leaving just the fractured remains of what was there before .

That's what Tesco's, (or any Offie) and a beer cooler are for...

Largest navy port in the UK closes pubs early. Um surely not! I think you will find all the night life you could hope for in the old town - the cathedral, lock-ins, houses with pretty coloured lights in the windows....
