This is Tom McAlister from Highline Kites and the Berkeley Kite Festival. Though I am not a regular contributor here, Lolly from the factory suggested that let you in on a fantastic surprise we have planned. A limited run of BKF Custom Rev 1.5 SLE's. It is a project that I have wanted to do for a long time and I am extremely excited about it.

These kites are unlike any kites ever seen anywhere, and I hope you will like them as much as I do.

Last January, I had a proposition for Ben and Lolly. "Hey guys," I said, "How about if I design some custom cloth for a set of very limited BKF custom Revs." They said, "Tom, if you want to get us some great looking cloth, We'll build you some great looking kites." That was all the motivation I needed.

Six months later, after slowly improving my graphic skills and even more slowly learning the technical side about how to have fabric printed, I can show you a preview of this very limited run of BKF custom Revs. The fabric should arrive at the factory today and there is only enough to cloth to make a few kites. I wish I had printed more. Please keep in mind that the images here are mockups and not photos of the finished kites.

Hope you all are having a great summer and I hope to see many of you in Berkeley in three weeks.

Smooth Winds,

Tom McAlister

P.S.

We will be taking pre-orders on these kites on our web site in a few days. These kites are not on our site now but we figured you guys should be the first to know.

If I have done this correctly there should be seven jpgs inluded.

Wow, very distinct... Those'll jump nicely in the sky!

Also, although iQuad won't make it to Berkeley this year, I'll be there with Ben, Lolly and the rest of the gang... I'll spend some time on the learn to fly field, and most of all, make myself available to all attending Rev fliers who have questions or want to learn something new. ;)

Visit Tom's tent, stop by the Rev field, and make sure I get a chance to meet you!

Great event, looking forward to it. :)

There was only enough fabric created for 12 kites. That's right 12 kites total, not 12 per color.
For fliers who want a matched set, UL and Std or Vent and Std we will be taking orders.

Hope this helps,

Tom M.

Very Nice Tom. Can't wait to see them in person.

Again, for all rev flyers, Team Too Much Fun will be at this years festival providing demos and generally hanging out with Ben, Lolly and the crew and will be happy to help any one looking for rev assistance.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

A-OK to post prices for these customs. ;)

Question for the benefit of our readers here, will these SLE kites have 1/4" or SLE leading edge spars?

Also, those who are reading, which one would you most be interested in?

Great question John.

They are still being built so I guess we could go either way.

What do you guys think?

Should we have them framed in SLE or 1/4" rods? If you vote for 1/4" rods would you go light or heavy?

As for prices, I am still bending my head around that one. It looks like the fabric is costing us more than we expected it would but by the time I found that out my heart was so into the project that I just couldn't say no. I will say that they will be under 300.00 and and well under 300.00 as kite only. You will be able to get it either way.

You guys tell me. You are the real Rev experts. Am I in the ballpark or am I out of my league? I should make a decision by the end of the week.

Thanks for you feedback,

Tom McAlsiter

When will you start taking pre-orders?

Also, as a flier, I'd suggest including either a Race frame or 3-wrap frame.

Most of the guys who already have Revs and are adding to their collection will want Race spars, because it's what they break the most of, and often get the most use out of... Next out from there is probably the 3-wrap, which also gets quite a bit of use.

I'll take this one kite only with 3wrap or race rods which ever, I agree 1/4" frame would be a better choice as these will most likely never see high wind anyhow.

Great point about how Customs like these would likely stay in the bag when the wind are cranking.

Did you notice the two hands in the lower ends of the panels. I can't wait to see this kite finished.

Hi Tom,

Just a question. Are the pictures you have the final pictures of the kite? I'm seeing the pattern strikes on the left and right and most of the kite Body is black. Is that a temporary template or is it really going to be a mostly black sail? Found it a bit odd since I would think we need at least the Revolution word and logo on it..

Unconfirmed at this point, but my guess is that the logo/printing will be in white...

These may just be "concept" images, focusing on the custom cloth. ;)

It is never to late to plan a visit back to Berkeley for the BKF.

What you see is a mock-up, not a finished kite. Rev didn't even get the cloth until this Monday so this had to be a mock-up if I wanted to do show and tell here. And of course I was dying to play show and tell.

Except for the printed cloth triangles we sent to Rev. The rest of the kite will be black as night with the gray Rev logo on top of the center black panel. It is going tasteful and should look fantastic.

Hope this clears things up.

Hope to be taking orders by the weekend.

$299.00 for the package
$279.00 Kite Only

Kite Frame is your choice. 2, 3, 4 Wrap or SLE.

Fliers taking delivery of their kites at the BKF will get first delivery.
If all 12 kites are gone by Sunday the 26, mail orders will be shipped within 2-3 weeks. Vented versions will be available but will also ship within 2-3 weeks.

We are trying to keep this as fair to everyone as possible. Per-Orders will all be filled, but is seems fair to us that if you are making the trip to our BKF you should get first delivery. We also don't want raise excitement and then let folks down by having nothing left to show at the BKF.

Sorry for our delay in getting pricing out to everyone.

Again, they should be up for pre-order in our store over the weekend.

Thanks to all here for their support and suggestions.

I will announce here the second that happens,

Cheers,

Tom
BKF is two weeks away and my head is about to burst! :w00t:
