I've been listening to others rave about how great it is to fly on the beach. So, since we're vacationing in Traverse City, I had my first opportunity to try out beach flying. I went down to the public beach on the shore of West Traverse Bay ... a beautiful bay on Lake Michigan. No swimmers today ... except for some ducks you can see in the water below my kite. No sun bathers ... I'm told they haven't seen the sun in weeks. Got to say that I don't see what everyone is raving about ... maybe it's just my timing!

But, I was able to use my new kite from JB (Victoria) for the first time ... thanks again John. It was kind of neat to see a white kite with two lime colored slices flying around with a pure white background.

Cheers,
Tom

Yep, that it is ... and the picture was taken today of it's maiden flight. The wind was perfect ... the snow was clean ... the time was right.

Tom

That's my home town. Kind of miss it some times. But not when I look at the weather. Flown many a kit from that beach. Hope you had a great time.

You should talk to Ben and see if you can get a kite to match the hat.

I bet the kite is wondering what happened and what it did so wrong to make JB so mad he would send it to guy who doesn't know any better than to vacation some where warm.

Jeepster.

My family has been going through Traverse City on our way to the village of Northport (30 miles up the west side of Grand Traverse) for 55 years. I have flown there many times. Never in the snow, but with numerous bathing beauties.

Pic's are great, nice kite

I think the new kite looks pretty darn cool in that landscape, Jeep! :clap;

That second photo makes you look like you're flying on the edge of a cliff tho! Eeeep!

Mike,

You and I share a lot of living and traveling in the same place. I've been coming here for over 40 years ... I married into family in the area. And, we lived in Tucson during most of the 90's ... Shadow Hills area.

BTW, you didn't miss anything by not flying in the snow down on the bay. Down next to the water, bitter is an understatement

Thanks for the compliment,
Tom

Nope ... it's really a gently sloped swimming beach right there ... maybe six inches of snow at the waters edge.

I've got to say that I'm really looking forward to KP now ... both water and warmth, what a concept.

Cheers,

Tom

kitecowboy -

Yes Jeepster let out my dirty secret, however if I was in witness protection I would have demanded somewhere besides here. Anyway, back to the thread, the kite looks great in that setting, I think those pictures actually do the kite justice. It is gorgeous.
