I'm not registered, but I'm thinking of just showing up with my good camera and hanging with folks if that's allowed. Gettysburg is such a neat little town. In the Fall it's going to be gorgeous I think.

the wife and I are going,...
commuting the first couple of days (since Sunfest is the long weekend before Nat'ls!)
Staying in the host hotel from Thursday thru Sunday.

I'm going to be there...coming in on Monday morning and leaving Sunday.

The only things you HAVE to register for at the convention are the workshops and the banquets. Oh yeah, and you can't get to the Fly Mart without being a registered attendee.

The outdoor flying events are open for public viewing. I believe that we intend to have a field nearby where the public can fly as well. On Tuesday night, the indoor competition will be held. Right now, there is talk of allowing non-registered attendees (ie, the public) to come in and watch that event, IF there is ample room after registered attendees are in the building. I believe that there may be a nominal fee to the public for the indoor event as well.

Of course I'll be there. I will be commuting every day, but it is a half hour drive or so for me. I was under the understanding that you must be registered to participate in any of the events, though i think a public flying field would encourage new memberships. As much as I would enjoy flying my rev's for the week, I want to spend some time in the kite building workshops. So I can get my ideas into flight. But I'll be on the field, can not pass up the chance to fly with others. I love to team fly and have been practicing big fig. 8's on the 120's. I am the only one around who flies regularly, and the only time I get to fly with others are events such as this.

Kitezen, you are correct...to participate (actually fly on the official fields, attend the workshops, etc), you must be registered. However, to just watch the flying, or to fly in the public areas (non-competition fields), anyone is welcome!

I'm here to tell you, the "full meal" experience is awesome...

Auction banquet, awards banquet, indoor comps, workshops, etc.

If you can do so, I hardily recommend it. ;)

In my experience, the nervousness goes away completely when you find a mental space where you're truly only trying to fly to the best of your ability, and from the heart... Then the judges are just audience members, with front row seats. ;)

I am happy and quite psyched to say that I am going. I'll be there for the whole sha-bang (don't know how that's spelled... good word, though :kid_smartass: ). What the heck, I might as well take in the full experience. :kid_smartass:

John, I had heard that in the past you guys (iQuad) did some clinic type stuff or is it just demo flying...if time allows?

I am really looking forward to all of it. I'm sure I'm going to get tons of info out of this. :clap2: B) ... not to mention, meeting lots of folks that we chat with here on the forum... kewl!

No clinic at AKA this year, we didn't find it to be a conducive environment for our kind of clinic... Better off with all day clinics, or two days.

May be some demos, mega flying, etc... All depends on the schedule.

wen and i will be there, coming from the Cherry Valley event.
excited to see so many fun kiters gather for the party.

right now Wen is sleeping much, eating much and reading much
sort of making up what he might have missed out during the marathon
in Ocean Shores and WSIKF trip. I am feeding him well so he will have
a bit reserved blubber for the future days of losing himself to flying (and
hanging out).

Oh, he just outgrew his sneaker, now size 11.5, and wore out the beloved denim shirt and
kaki pants......... can't help notice he is a growing young man i guess.

we have been to flea market, but not fly market.... any words from the gurus?

looking forward to the big party of kiters, making life interesting by flying it.

Change of plans.

I am going to commute on Tuesday and then stay at a campground nearby for the rest of the week. My wife wanted to camp one more time before it gets to cold so we are staying at the same campground with Brad...

We drove up in the rain today (thanks Hannah!). Attached is a picture of Boyd's Bears and one of the flying fields. I would have taken more pictures but it was really wet!
