GWTW recently cleaned their site and removed it. I would post it as a attachment, but it is too big, a 8.9 meg pdf file. John, can you help out here?

I'd need clearance from the author.

Get me that, and I'll be happy to review it for addition to the site. ;)

We need to find Bill and Kim Taylor, and get permission. Does anyone know them or how to contact them?

It can still be found on the GWTW site. On the top menu, look for "Handy" then under "PDF"

I found the suggestion for tying lines on to the kite with the 'leading edge up' somewhat alarming...

I thought that the convention for setting up the kites 'leading edge down' was fully established way before 1996!

I scrolled through the pdf this afternoon. The line attachment issue really leapt out. I do not think that there would be any other serious issues but 1996 when it was published is a long time ago and the 'explanations' could have improved in the meantime.

Apart from scheming how to set up a 100 flier mega-team <grins> I am trying to find a form of words that adequately describes what I have referred to a 'long arm' flying. We know that some fliers are 'very active on the ground' and others consider it anathema. I would like to find a way of describing the pros and cons. Handle grip appears to be a key issue and the new snag-free handles radically reduce the risks in dynamic handling....

You can read??? is there no end to your talents!

As a relative newcomer to kites I find this sort of thing is a pretty good reflection on the Rev design seeing how little has changed since this was published ... who needs a better mouse trap ;)

I think that they, the authors, were wrong in 1996 to suggest attaching lines with the leading edge facing up. The Rev design was good from the outset and in 1991, I note, it was perfectly standard to attach lines with the leading edge facing down. I am not going to comment on the safety issues, one way or another, as others are more properly qualified to do so...

I seem to remember a couple of people who absolutely insisted on setting up with leading edge up in the mega flies in Portsmouth and Bristol despite repeated suggestions otherwise, and it did cause some problems both times. :P

Bottom line, if the kite is upright, it has a good chance of launching by itself and wreaking havoc.

I didn't see that. I am puzzled as to whom it was! Not clinic attendees presumably?

Probably best not to re-publish dubious advice I guess.
