Right on! It is Guadeloupe!
It was the "1st International Kite Challenge" in June of 1997. The draught in Guadeloupe is almost unheard of, but it happened.
They had to resurfaced the flying field with white chalk which was blinding to the eyes and very hard.
The lady is Josephine Robertshaw. On crutches is ? Robertshaw. He twisted his leg in one of the holes. John Barresi also twisted is leg while learning to axel a REV, not related to the holes. He was hobbling around on my shoulder at the closing banquet.
There are some more pictures, though not spectacular, on my Web site under kite photography, 1997, Guadeloupe or http://johnnmitchell...aloupe1997.html

Yes it is Carl. James was teaching JB how to axel when JB twisted his leg.

So that would presumably mean that James Robertshaw was teaching JB how to axel his body then? The trick with that is all in the subtle hand movement - ensure at the last moment you stick them out to catch yourself!
