I'm looking at adding a BLOG and upgraded GALLERY to the Rev forums, but wanted your input before we jump into the project...

Example of the gallery script - http://www.revdeck.c...autocom=gallery

Example of the blog script - http://www.revdeck.c...automodule=blog

The blog is really cool, users can create their own web content and link it straight to items or albums in the forum galleries.

Right now, the Rev gallery is pretty limited in layout and ability.

Please take a look at both of those links, and let me know if you'd like to see these added here for our use!

--

Please consider, as much as we love the Revolution company, the Revdeck forum is for skaters, it's posted here for an example only...

We wouldn't want a bunch of skate kids joining up on the kite forum and talking about skateboards all day, eh? ;)

I really like the gallery. It has nice organization, plus the random pic thing at the bottom.

As for the blog, I don't think it is really needed. What any person does on the blog, it seems like they could do just as well on the normal forum. I think it will end up just being wasted space.

Well, you could use the blog's to get Iquads blogs back on form, since last i checked they were kinda out of date, and the gallery for the photos looked much cleaner. Looks different, though i think the backround was a wee bit busy for most people.

I agree about the clash of cultures - A couple of the recent posts were titled "Yo" and "Ya" ;)

Thumbs up for the photo gallery. As for the blogs, it's sometimes nice to see what people are up to - for example Baloo's recent trip with his land rover and the great countryside photos he took. And in a way it would be good to get this sort of thing out of the main body of the forum and keep the forum for the meatier discussions. I think it would be a nice thing to have, but not knowing the cost it is of course difficult to say whether it is value for money. I guess however that the photo gallery would account for the bulk of the bandwidth and hosting costs.

gut reaction 'yuck'... not particularly web 2.0 ....

Personally I like the old school feel of these forums ... seems very homely and I suspect suits the demographic of the members (pussy footing around the fact that I suspect there are more old farts like me on here then any other demographic!) ..

I am in IT and spend a lot of my day on tech forums/knowledge bases etc and they have nearly all moved towards simply layouts, efficient search engines and minmal clutter.. just the stuff you want.

so I pretty much agree with Sailor ... just a little better organisation with sections for the hints and advice, links, then a revamped photo gallery somewhere and would love an video section/archive that included all the Official Rev DVD footage and leave the forums for our general ramblings..

Isn't it great when people agree about something, even if their views of the issue are totally different!!! :) :)

Gallery update idea great: similiar to the Kitelife one would be cool.

Blog idea: nice idea to keep the 'waffle' separate from the main forum.

I wanted to write down my daily/weekly challenges I faced as a newbie flyer.
Mainly to see how I am developing those newly acquired skills (or not) ;)

If ppl aren't interested from a different flyers perspectic then they could easily not read it via a blog.
(Hence easier than if it is mentioned within the main forum under different discussions).

It'll only work well if it is easy to select specific usernames for their gallery and or blogs.

Maybe set up a "favourite user" gallery or blog in the CP of your own account ????
Like a favourite friends list etc.

Both of them bog down my older laptop big time. It may just be because of the background picture he has picked but I would look into it before I used the software. Try it out on an older computer.

Awesome, that'd be more in line with what you'll experience when we add the gallery here. ;)

Looks like only about 1/2 the people who voted would like to see the blog added, will probably leave this one off for now.

Not being a techie Iím not entirely sure I understand the question, so please correct me if Iím wrong, but if my understanding is correct I think I may have a compromise.

As I understand it, there is no reason why Revolution needs to host any blogs. I thought most bloggers uploaded their bloggs into the web space provided by their ISPs. If that is the case what is to stop our admin setting up a section on our forum for any of our members to post links to their blogs, hosted elsewhere, providing almost all the benefits at minimal cost to Revolution.

Gallery is installed, have at it!

http://www.revkites....autocom=gallery

If you have photos in the old gallery, please take the time to move 'em over. ;)

As for the blogs, not sure what we'll do yet... The expense to host it is pretty minimal, just a matter of use or not.

I've installed a Blog system on the Kitelife forum, if anyone would like to give it a go. ;)

Look under "My Controls" for Blog set up info.
