So far from what I've seen, it has to cost me over a grand (air, room, car) to arrive Friday and depart Monday...ouch! It's a big chunk of change for 3 days. I'll keep looking though....

I won't be there, but you might be able to bum a ride with someone from the Portland area.
For flights check out Philadelphia versus Newark. Prices are quite a bit cheaper to PDX. The down fall is that you might end up driving 2 to 3 times as far to Philadelphia.

Please don't let the silence concern you, I've just had my plate filled all of the sudden with Kitelife's site issues.

I intend to get some details out in the next week or two, really!

My cell number is 503-890-0280...

Worst case, call me on July 4th or look for us at the promenade (center of town, on the beach). ;)

We'll be staying at the 8 story condo building, right by the turnaround, across from the Shilo.

I'll have John's name on the reservation too.

We plan on a get together at the condo Saturday morning, before heading to the beach.

Hi Laura,

The Shilo is beachfront. It was the host hotel for the AKA 2004 Nationals. The convention center is about 3 blocks inland, easy walking distance.

We'll be at:

http://www.wmowners....esorts/info/SSD

Thursday to Monday.....and the iQuad boys will hold a get together Saturday morning at a yet to be determined time. We'll all meet in the lobby Saturday morning and go from there.
John will get a schedule to everyone soon. :)

Hope you can make it!!

Will try and work on specifics tonight (Japan time).

For the record, would each person who is definitely attending send me a PM to that effect with their name, home town and an email address?

I'd like to firm up the expected number of pilots, to help me develop an effective schedule for this more intensive clinic. ;)

Question for those attending...

Would you like to see specific schedule, like we did in Long Beach?

Or, shall we address topics "on demand" and supplement with other things I know to be useful?

Only 9-12 pilots for this one (compared to 31 at WCRC)... Lots of time for more hands on training. ;)

Hi Theresa...
I'm stilll up in the air about this. This still might be doable :kid_content: ; I'd really love to go and meet/fly with you all. Plus, the instructional aspect...it's hard to pass up.

I'll be in touch...

Thanks for the info. Take care.

Hi John,

I would like to have a start similar to the WCRC.

where we 1st had the intro of the iQuad members, then all attendee's

checking line lengths, handle tuning, kite tuning and adjustments

quick class on 'own thy hover' and see who needs the most attention 1st

then a mega fly to feel out where we each of us needs to work on.

then a night mega fly

just my thoughts.

Gotcha Pete, you're in... Only TWO slots left now.

FYI, we don't take Canadian currency. ;)

Would still love to hear from more people about the format.

At this point, I'm thinking a fun fly on Friday (with night fly), structured teaching (like WCRC) on Saturday, and one-on-one "touch ups" all of Sunday.

How does this sound to everyone?

John,
Like the idea of starting out on Saturday similiar to the WCRC format. A little guidance Sat Morning on things to work at and look for. Then break out and work on those aspects, Group back together, discuss results, do it again. Sunday would be fun if it was wide open and left to the mercy of our mentor's. Just my two cents.

I'd like to see 2 or 3 short, organized group sessions per day. Group sessions are good because you can hear the challenges others are facing. More experienced people can verbalize the questions better. Rather than having a set schedule, have a general order of topics that will be covered. Then let everyone know when a session is about to start.

Things I want to work on, whether one-on-one or in a group:
* Flying figures inverted.
* Mega-fly figures.
* How to minimize inputs and not flail about.
* Gaining ground in light wind.
* Axels and floaty moves.

Just .02 from a noob .... Can't wait!

Okay gang, got a basic game plan laid out... Look to the first post in this thread, give me a couple of minutes to add the document.

We'll be holding the clinic at "Sunset Beach", which is a tad north of Seaside proper... Will add a Google map link, as soon as I find it on the map.

It's a drive-on beach, even for 2WD vehicles.

TONS of room, less foot traffic, and we won't run the danger of kites being run over, like we did at the WCRC. ;)

Also, still deciding where to meet on Saturday night, will update the first post with this info as well, soon as I have it.

I've learned that Seaside takes up a significant portion of the beach from noon onward, setting up their fireworks display... We're not an officially recognized event, so it goes without saying that we're at the mercy of our environment for the night fly.

Best advice, look north and south of the promenade for kites on Friday, otherwise we'll see you at Sunset Beach on Saturday morning. ;)

John,
Would it be OK if I was flying on the same beach? I do not have the $$ for the clinic, (wife says NO!) but maybe a participant with nothing to do could come over and keep me company and maybe give a few pointers?
I will stay out of the way, but I would love to meet some other local fliers! I do not want to horn in when others have payed the dues for this clinic, and I have not.

It would be outside any respectable bounds to ask you to avoid the beach, it's 100% public property. ;)

As long as you're considerate (primarily to the paid students), I've got no real issues with it.

Okay, thanks to help from Theresa at The Kite Shoppe, iQuad has permission to fly in front of the promenade up until the fireworks start (approximately 4pm-10pm).

The Seaside chamber of commerce is actually including us in their press releases. ;)

I'd assume there will still be "open" flying throughout the day however, until they start setting up their fireworks.
